Shaun Smith, Group Finance Director of the Aga Foodservice Group plc, was one of the three finalists nominated for the award of Finance Director of the Year in the Jaeger-LeCoultre Telegraph Business Awards 2005 held at Moorhouse in London on 2nd November 2005.
A panel of 8 judges, which included Sir Digby Jones, Sir Martin Sorrell and Lord Stevenson of Coddenham, assessed the nominations in the ‘FD of the Year’ category and chose Douglas Flint, FD of HSBC Holdings plc as the category winner
Commenting on his nomination, Shaun Smith said: “It was an honour both for me as an individual and for the Group to be nominated and indeed reach the finals of the Finance Director category of these Awards. The role of the Finance Director is increasingly diverse, it is no longer just about adding up the numbers; it is about the good interpretation and communication of the facts, whether it be in areas such as IFRS, pensions, operational performance or treasury matters; thus enabling good, well-informed business decisions to be taken.”
