On Thursday 3rd April at Divertimenti in London, Aga Rangemaster launched the Birchfield Harriers Sponsors Group – an initiative that will create a high profile group of 12 Midlands businesses who will sponsor and support 12 athletes from Birchfield Harriers in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics.
Aga Rangemaster have sponsored Birchfield Harriers for nearly 20 years and have seen athletes such as Denise Lewis, Mark Lewis Francis and Katharine Merry benefit from the coaching at Birchfield Harriers that has helped them bring home medals from previous Olympic Games.
Speaking at the event, William McGrath commented, “As soon as London, not Paris, was announced the opportunity was there for us all to contribute to make the London Games something special. The shape and nature of the Group can of course evolve, but the objective is clear – to provide enthusiastic support and financial backing for the club to once again make its mark at London 2012.”
Guests at the event were treated to delicious food cooked by the Divertimenti team whilst they listened to Ed Warner, Chairman of UK Athletics, and representatives of Birchfield Harriers, including Daniel Caines, former World Indoor Champion, talk about the importance of sponsorship for the future of British Athletics.
The 12 members of the Sponsors Group will be officially named at the Beijing Trials and UK Championships at Alexander Stadium, home of the Birchfield Harriers, on Saturday 12th July 2008.
